Kočevje is popular among sports enthusiasts and culture lovers alike. Deepen your contact with nature in the vast forests of Kočevje, including remnants of primeval forest, and get to know karst phenomena and wildlife.
Nature lovers will be impressed by four Kočevje primeval forests, with a timber mass of more than 1000 cubic metres per hectare. Meet the oldest of the trees, with the Queen of Rog taking the crown: a 51-metre-tall, 160-centimetre-diameter, 580-centimetre-circumference fir tree that is more than 500 years old.
If you are fond of unspoiled nature, and are also interested in history, take a trip to one the most forested areas in Slovenia – Kočevski Rog, stretching from Bela krajina to Kočevje, where the famous Base 20 was the secret headquarters of the leadership of the Slovenian partisan movement during the Second World War. The preserved buildings are also exhibition spaces.
